LeRoy F. “Jinx” Davis, Oregon native, guitarist, songwriter, and country swing musician, 59, died in his sleep at his home near West Linn, Oregon, on November 3, 2006. A stalwart friend of the old-time music community in the Pacific Northwest, Davis organized the Folk Alliance conference in Portland, Oregon, in February 1995, and he was long devoted to the Weiser (Idaho) Old-Time Fiddle Contest. Davis was known for his fine musicianship, infectious good humor, and unfailing generosity of spirit. Equally gracious with novice musicians as he was with the adept, he could often be seen taking time to share some pointers with anyone who was willing to learn, young or old.
